Kniha jako předloha pro hip hopové texty není až tak častá záležitost, nicméně existují případy, kdy se tak stalo. Mezi ty známější patří román "Nejmodřejší oči"   (1) , který posloužil dvojici Black Star (Mos Def a Talib Kweli) a jejich skladbě " Thieves In The Nights " (2) . Částečně lze do této kategorie zařadit i kapelu The Roots a jejich album " Things fall Apart "   (3) , jež převzalo název od nigerijského dramatika Chinua Achebe   (4)  a jeho stejnojmenný román z roku 1958. Část textu knihy Williama Saroyana " Čas tvého života " použil také MF Doom pro intro " A Word of Advice " na albu Doomilation (2003) .  Nejedná se o román, ale o hru, kterou Saroyan napsal v New Yorku za šest dní v roce 1939. Dílo svému autorovi zajistilo značný věhlas; rok po jeho uvedení za něj obdržel Pulitzerovu cenu, kterou však odmítl převzít s odůvodněním, že na odměny a ceny ve sféře umění nevěří.
