Donald Bogle (*1944), filmový historik a profesor newyorské univerzity Tisch School of the Arts a the University of Pennsylvania, mapuje ve své přednášce"Bright Boulevards" (knižně vydané v r. 2005) šest dekád amerického filmového průmyslu a odhaluje mýtus i realitu tzv. černého Hollywoodu; kde původně nebylo pro Afroameričany místo a museli si jej tvrdě vybudovat. Americká kinematografie a Afroameričané jsou pro Boglea stěžejní témata, do povědomí se dostal začátkem 70. let, kdy vyšel jeho debut " Toms, Coons, Mulattoes, Mammies and Bucks: An Interpretative History of Blacks in Films " ( více o knize zde ), který se zaměřuje na černošské stereotypy v americké kinematografii od počátku němého filmu až po současnost. Pro evropské publikum může být obtížné pochopit tuto problematiku, která zdánlivě souvisí jen s filmovým průmyslem, ale ve skutečnosti reflektuje společensko-politické nálady USA 20. století. a Spike Lee Joint Ya Dig -  Sho Nuff By Any Means Necessary

Velký plakát Erica Garnera , Afroameričana, který zemřel při zatýkání newyorské policie 17. července 2014, vyvěsil Spike Lee na výlohu svého studia „ 40 Acres and a Mule “ v Brooklynu. Celý incident byl natočen na video a citát „ I can´t breathe “ z plakátu byl použit právě z něho. Eric Garner měl být NYPD zpacifikován, ačkoli dle videa nepůsobil agresivně, při zatýkání jeden z policistů jej začal zezadu škrtit, zřejmě se záměrem dostat jej na zem a nandat mu pouta. To, co ale proběhlo až příliš připomínalo závěrečnou scénu ze Spikeova filmu „Do The Right Thing“, kde je jedna z hlavních postav, Radio Raheem , udušen newyorskou policií při zatýkání. Celá záležitost je dost podivná, nicméně velmi znepokojující fakt je, že policisté Garnerovi nesundali pouta ani ve chvíli, kdy byl již v bezvědomí. PS: pomáhat a chránit (WTF?)

The Black History month is gone and I don’t want to wait for another one, so here´s a post about a guy you know very well. This post might have been called “The Brooklyn thang” or “40 Acres and a Mule Issue“, anyway this moment is dedicated to one and only Spike Lee.

The documentary 4 LITTLE GIRLS is a sad story about the 60´s in Birmingham, Alabama. In September 15, 1963 The 16th Street Baptist church was bombed by members of Ku Klux Klan splinter group called the Cahaba Boys. In that attack, four little African-American girls were killed ( Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson and Denise McNair ) and 22 other people were also hurt by the blast. The story is not only about the event itself, actually the film is an account of the 50´s and the 60´s era, MLK, the fight for civil rights, the segregation in the south, Eugene " Bull " Connor, etc. The Spike Lee´s way of talk is not hectic and proves how rare it is nowadays. The way of talk that involves fast cuts and effects, which is actually being seen in the contemporary cinema, doesn't help a story at all and it rather spoils any good feeling and emotions we'd get from it in our hearts.
