He worked as a cameraman for the TV channel Al Jazeera. He was shot while returning to the eastern city of Benghazi (Libya) after filing a report, Al-Jaber was sent to a hospital but did not survive.

  A documentary portrait of James Baldwin, one of the towering figures of 20th-century American literature, Black culture and political thought, filmed in Paris. The iconic writer is captured in several symbolic locations in the city, where he was living at the time, including the Place de la Bastille. "Korán", Ivan Hrbek (Odeon 1972)

Překlad Koránu od Ivana Hrbka je již třetí v pořadí a patří k těm nejlépe hodnoceným, neboť překladatel si byl vědom chyb a nedostatků v předešlých překladech (Čeština A.R.Nykl, stručný komentáře I.Veselého) a vyvaroval se jich. Jeho text je používán jak orientalisty a odborníky na islám, tak i česky mluvícími muslimy.
