Jestli bychom hledali v historii Spojených států moment, kdy se výrazně měnila práva člověka, byla by to určitě 60.léta. Období bohaté na osobnosti a události, které zásadně měnily osudy lidí a směrovaly vývoj budoucnosti. Kniha „To Do Justice“ je už v dnešní době trochu neaktuální a téma, které popisuje bylo již zpracováno tisíckrát. Důvod proč se zde objevuje je její autenticita, protože je z doby, kdy Afro-američané prožívali euforii a cítili, že změna je skutečně blízko.. Skupina fotografů a žurnalistů BLACK STAR, popisuje dění na jihu USA, těžkou situaci chudinských čtvrtí Chicaga nebo New Yorku, dále přináší obrazy prvních afro-amerických školáků přijatých do bělošských škol nebo demonstrace M.L.Kinga. Obrazová stránka nám dává možnost nakouknout do Ameriky 50. a 60. let.

The purpose of this book is to tell, in words and pictures, the heroic story of Americans, both black and white, who have risked and given their lives so that all our citizen may enjoy equal opportunity. Equal opportunity, however, is not alone the right to attend an integrated school or eat in desegregated restaurants or have access to public accommodations. Equal opportunity means eliminating poverty, providing enough jobs for all who are able and willing to work, enabling every young person to obtain an education to the full extent of his ability to learn, caring for our elderly and our sick. It means providing the opportunity to become a full human being. The civil rights struggle has won glorious victories. But to fulfill its bright promise and to realize the goals of the Great Society, all of us, black and white, rich and poor, must dedicate our minds, our hearts and our deeds so that, in the words of President Johnson, "Every man can follow the pursuit of happiness - not just security - but the achievement and excellence and fulfillment of the spirit."
